ROBERTO CIACCIO

Infinitononfinito / Non-finite Infinity

This is an edition consisting of fifteen portfolios inked on the front and rear: each of these is different from the other (100 x 80 cm) and contains seven monotypes printed on Hahnemühle paper (98 x 78.5 cm), all signed and numbered by the artist.

The frontispiece and colophon are printed on a single sheet signed by the artist and the printer. The edition was executed by Giorgio Upiglio in Milan from 2005 to 2008.

The work was illustrated in: Roberto Ciaccio, Revenants. Widerspiegelungen der Matrix  / Rispecchiamenti della Matrice, Mazzotta Editore, Milan, 2006  (Catalogue of the artist’s monographic exhibition at the Kupferstichkabinett, Staatliche Museen, Berlin, March–June 2006).

With their serial sequences and their total difference, these monotypes give an idea of the infinite question that the artist and printer put to the plates. Thus the printed sheets become the non-finite loci of an endless question.

With its philosophical content, the edition expresses the essence of a dialogue between the artist and the printer with its    mirror-like character.

The work is present in the permanent collection of the Kupferstichkabinett of the Staatliche Museen, Berlin, and in the Istituto Nazionale per la Grafica, Rome.

The work was presented by the Galerie Patrick Cramer, Geneva, in 2008.
